As mentioned, we went to the Bronx Zoo last Saturday. After the flamingos, we stopped at the Birds of Prey Exhibit.

Flamingos

We had a wonderful day on Saturday at the Bronx Zoo. I took over 500 pictures and I am slowly working through them. Prepare yourselves, this will be a week of Bronx Zoo pictures. The first animals we saw were the flamingos. The colors of these birds are so beautiful. It's amazing what mother nature created and try as hard as we can, we can never truly recreate these beautiful colors.

Million Dollar Monday - Bronx Zoo Sculpture Version

Saturday was an absolutely gorgeous fall day so Mary Beth and I brought our mother to the Bronx Zoo to see the bird show they are doing this month. While there all three of us were almost more enthralled (bot not quite) with the architecture and stone work than the animals. While taking pictures of the stone work, I thought they would be perfect for my Million Dollar Monday post. If I had 100s of millions of dollars, I would definitely commission an artist to replicate some of this work. They just don't make them like this any more! Here are some samples I would have dispersed throughout my mini empire.

These are only a very small percentage of the pictures I took. Throughout the week as I go through the rest of them, I will be posting more. Lots of sea lions, birds and lemurs! Can you believe I went to the zoo and didn't make it to the bears? I can't! But by the time we made it over to the polar bear (5PM with a 5:30PM closing time) the stupid Bronx Zoo had pulled them inside.

If you would like to play along please leave a comment with a link to your million dollar post but there are rules:

1. None of the obvious - quit my job, pay my debts, etc. Those are obvious and assumed. This is for after that's all done.

2. This is a time to be selfish post. If you're going to win the lottery and give it all to charity, I don't care. I might give some of mine to charity but only after I buy myself stuff.

New Knitting Project

I have been feeling the need to knit again for along time now. The problem is these days, with working full time and running the store after work, my attention span is minimal. If I were to start a big project, like a sweater, I would never get anywhere because the few times I find to knit I would spend more time trying to figure out where I left off than get anything done.

So for the past couple of weeks, I have been tossing ideas back and forth in my mind. I finally decided on a summer blanket. I have a down comforter on my bed and it's great during the winter but during the summer it can be a little warm. Most nights during the summer I need something more than a sheet and something less than the down comforter. So I have decided to knit a blanket with cotton yarn. Because of the aforementioned attention span issues I decided I would create my own pattern that will allow me to knit individual squares and then knit them all together at the end. Not sure how it's all going to come together but the first plan was to determine how many squares. Then I will knit the squares and decide exactly how I'm going to get them all together at the end. It should be interesting!

So far this is what I have planned. Individual pink and yellow squares. Each square will be knit with different animals silhouetted in pearl stitches. This is the pattern for the entire blanket and the first square, when I get around to actually starting to knit, will be an elephant.

Stay tuned, hopefully, now that I have a plan, I will find the time to start the elephant soon!

Million Dollar Monday - Statuary

Lottery update - had 2 numbers on Friday which wins me all of $0.00.

In this installment of Million Dollar Monday, where I fantasize about the material things I would buy if I won millions of dollars in the lottery, I am going to buy statuary to furnish my acres of property. We went on a bike ride this weekend while down the Jersey Shore and found this house that was impeccably landscaped and had the greatest statuary. So I took some pics for today's Million Dollar Monday. The pics are not great because I took them with my iPhone. I will have to go back with my Nikon and get some really good pictures. Though, I might get in trouble in the process because we think some "colorful" people own the property and might not appreciate me taking pictures of their house.

First I will have two of these to flank my driveway.

I loved this one on the top of the balcony looking down at the bay (you can barely see it).

This one was pretty subtle coming out of the dune grass.

And finally a bench for my garden. I don't know why Blogger won't print with the correct orientation, guess it's too wide.
